Treatment Options In Separation Anxiety For Dogs

By Jeffrey Edwards

It can be very telling that the greatest example of mutual interspecies relationship is that between dogs and humans. In fact, this relationship has spiraled well out control to the point that some dogs expressly cant live without their human best friends. Separation Anxiety for Dogs in Los Angeles is one such phenomenon that drives home this point.

Humans can miss their fur balls too. When theyre away at school or work or some such place, they often find their thoughts wandering back to Fido at home. And its generally observed that when a pet goes to the Happy Hunting Ground for good, the grief expressed by their masters is actually real and debilitating.

It must be because we have a lot of things going on and around for us. However, for our pets, were literally the sun in which their furry ball of earth revolves around. They therefore have nothing better else to do than want to spend all their long dog days with us. Which is not always a good case.

Well, most of the time. Its not always that we understand how these beloved pooches act the way they do. Separation anxiety, for example, can be a something we can neither make heads nor tails of. They can get us in a tizzy, wondering whether its the real deal or simply contrived behavior.

That can be cute at the beginning. But when the pooch has been too clingy to the point that youre actually worried about leaving him alone at home because of what he can wind up doing, then thats already a problem. After all, you are concerned of your dog so much and are aware that pets who have separation anxiety wind up not only damaging your property but also injuring and harming themselves.

If youre thinking that your pet probably has separation anxiety, you must have tried being overwhelmed by his symptoms. Examples are vocalizations such as barking, whining, and howling. He may also have indulged in destructive activities, such as gouging the walls, digging the floors, and scratching windows and doors in an attempt to escape from the room. He may chew on certain items and destroy other properties, and engage in irresponsible activities not usual for a house trained dog such as urinating or defecating inside the house or just about anywhere.

However, it would not do to diagnose all by yourself, since its practically an illness that entitles dogs to a range of heavy duty medications. If your dog expresses any of these symptoms, for example, it could be that he wasnt house trained in the first place, or was just indulging in territorial marking habits. He may also be merely teething or just bored. Also, it could be that they suffer from similar though discrete dysfunctions such as phobias. Correct diagnosis is requisite since it will set your mind at rest and allow you to better anticipate his behavior.

If you think your pet is a real deal separation anxiety candidate, youd do better to take him to a vet. The doctor will most likely encourage you to take gradual steps and processes to subdue your beloved pet, since extreme measures are naturally saved for later. If you think the condition is manageable and reversible, youd probably start with the so called counter conditioning, or gradually desensitizing your fur ball with separations. There are also home remedies available that can decrease his stress and provide outlets for destructive behavior. Perhaps lastly, your dog may need to take on a regular dose of anti anxiety medications.

Its worth to note that theres a whole host of things regarded by dog parents that dont really help in the slightest. Like getting another dog, or else caging or tying up the anxious pooch. In some cases these usually exacerbate rather than minimize the condition. The worst thing a pet owner can do, though, is to punish the poor dog. In the end, its not his fault and its the owners moral responsibility to see to it that the issue is constructively resolved.
