Finding A Perfect Pet In An English Bulldog Puppy For Sale

By Ryan Lee

Looking for a pet to buy involves some major considerations. Every dog breed has different pros and cons. You need to consider your wishes and what you are willing to undergo for a special breed. Looking for an English bulldog puppy for sale can be the answer to your wishes. However, before committing to this breed or any other, it is important to consider the good things and the bad.

Though they had a somewhat unsavory beginning, being breed for the sport of bull-baiting, they are overall a very gentle and loving dog. Bull-baiting was a sport where the dog grabbed a bull by the nose and hung on. They were bred to be very ferocious and to remain tethered to the bull and not be thrown off.

This atrocious sport became illegal in 1835. They then began to be bred to be gentle and loyal, and that became how they were after a while. They were selective bred after that to have a body shape more like the one they have today. Most people who love the breed find their look very attractive and cute.

A medium sized dog that weighs between 45 and 55 pounds, the English bulldog is very stocky, with a particular mouth shape that has been bred over the years for that shape. Protruding lower teeth give him a unique, appealing look. His coat sheds very little, and only seasonally, being short, straight and glossy.

The breed does not require much exercise. In fact, it may even be detrimental to them. They also don't bark much, and are quiet overall. This, combined with the low level exercise, make them very suited to apartment living, with a daily walk for the small amount of exercise they require. They are good with kids, and with other dogs, so fit into a family well. Of course, when relating to other dogs and to children, it is important to keep them under supervision at all times, as it is with all dogs.

Both straight tails and curly are a feature of this breed. Dogs with curled tails have a lot more issues with health and a more grooming needs. Dogs with straight tails have some, but far less issues, however. The attractiveness of these dogs to people who are partial to them may make it feasible to consider them anyway, with the willingness to take on these problems.

There are some few issues with bulldogs in the area of health and care. These are mostly skin problems and dental issues. The many folds in a bulldogs skin, which make them so cute, are prone to infection and require daily cleansing. They have dental issues as well, due to the shape of their jaws and protruding teeth. They should be inspected daily in both skin and teeth. Any strong odors may indicate infection.

The curly tail can trap feces in its folds and will require daily inspection and thorough cleaning to avoid infection and odor. One of the major health issues with the curly tailed dogs is a condition called Hemivertebrae. These are malformed spinal bones. It can cause crippling conditions and great pain. Many times surgery is required. At the least, frequent vet visits and medication is indicated.
