Before Buying That Egyptian Mau For Sale

By Douglas Baker

Earlier on today you may have come across an advertisement or sign that piqued your interest somewhat. The sign said Egyptian mau for sale and since you are in the market for a pet, especially a cat at that, you are fairly excited and want to go out and buy it. However, before making that final commitment it may be a good idea to get as much information on this breed first, and you can start by reading and finishing this article.

Looking like a small lynx, or a darkly spotted tree leopard due to its naturally occurring markings, this is one truly unique cat breed. It is known for its tremendous speed when running, being able to achieve a top speed of thirty miles per hour. This is a great feat considering that the cheetah, several times larger than this cat, can achieve top speeds of sixty miles per hour.

Many previous owners of the mau would swear to the fact that it will have springs instead of legs. This is due to it being able to do vertical high jumps quite easily and that it seems to be tireless in bouncing around. When keeping this breed in your house, ensure that it does have plenty of space to jump around in and that the place you keep it in does not have items that can be easily knocked around or broken.

This breed in general is very gentle and quite reserved, but it is also a breed that does crave a fair amount of attention. Given proper love and care, it will be able to adapt to any home environment that it will be in and with any family. If one were to think of having it compete later on in life in cat shows, the best thing to do will be to make it socialize a lot with other people early on.

Owners sometimes mistakenly think that giving food is a sign of affection and care, but this should not be done with the mau as it will have the tendency to over eat. Should they get used to a certain amount, they will in fact refuse to eat if you try to give it lesser than what is used to. Always use hugs and cuddles to show affection rather than giving treats.

For cats, this breed has a very long gestation period of 63 days to 70 days on average. Sometimes it will go over seventy days but one should have no worries, as they give birth quite easily. A healthy breeding pair will produce about two litters a year.

Interestingly this is a cat that sings instead of purrs. When it is interested or curious about something ti will chirp and chortle. It will also do the same noise when it is happy to see you. This cat is naturally curious of its environment especially when it is young so a watchful eye is needed on it.

Six hundred dollars to a thousand dollars is the price per kitten for this breed. It is by no means a cheap pet, and you will do well to learn more about it before taking on the commitment and responsibility of raising one
