Some Information You Need Before Your Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Breeders Visit

By Douglas Allen

Many of your friends at the moment have one kind of pet or another, probably a cat or a dog. As such you may have been thinking of visiting the nearest Cavalier King Charles Spaniel breeders and acquiring yourself a puppy. This may sound like a good idea at this time, but it may be best to hold off on that decision until you learn a little bit more about this breed.

This breed of dog will be a breed that will not come cheap if you are a first time buyer. Prices will range anywhere, in American dollars, of one thousand eight hundred to three and a half thousand per puppy. The price variations of course depends on its bloodline and if it is champion stock. Since it is not a cheap pet, you must definitely prepared in terms of its upkeep and such.

As this is not a very large dog, achieving only a maximum weight of 5.9 kilograms to 8.2 kilograms for both adult males and females, and also a maximum of thirteen inches in length, it is classified as a toy sporting breed. It is classified as such also due to some inherent personality traits of both sporting and toy breeds.

The dog is a lapdog and loves to be around humans, which is a personality trait and characteristic of the toy breed. It craves human closeness and companionship and it will go kind of crazy and stressed if away from humans for too long. If left alone for extended periods, it will start to chew things and destroy anything it comes in contact with. Thus one cannot afford to leave this canine alone for very long.

As for its sporting traits, this is a very active dog to boot. It will love to chase other small animals like squirrels or mic it sees outside, and the occasional insect also. When it chases things it will not pay attention to anything else, and will even cross a busy road. As such, it may be best to keep it fenced in, or at least on a leash.

The breed has fine and long fur that is quite prone to matting. Due to this it will need to be regularly brushed, once a week at the minimum at least. The fur has to be trimmed regularly also especially around the anal and hind areas, which can be prone to infection. Also one should not mistake the fur to be hypoallergenic as it is not.

This is a dog that is however, quite easy to train, as it responds positively to praise and such, although at times it can be overly playful. In terms of temperament this spaniel is affectionate and polite and will get along with anyone.

As the dog ages, as with most canines, it will have its fair share of medical complications. This will run the gamut of knee and eye problems all the way to hernias and heart conditions. Thus one should be prepared as this dog gets older.
